The Farmers' Market & Community Service
Our market serves as an important community gathering place, where people can interact with the growers of their food and get information about other community events and services. We have invited both local non-profit organizations such as the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, the Mukilteo Fire Department and the Boys and Girls Club and regional organizations such as Emergency Preparedness to have an informational booth at the market. There may be opportunities for participation for mobile units such as the Blood Bank, Diabetes testing and American Heart Association.
Since our first market in 2004, the Mukilteo Farmer’s Market and its vendors have donated excess fresh food to the Mukilteo Food Bank. Hundreds of pounds of food have provided an increasing variety and quality of food available to low-income residents. We also have worked on increasing our customer base by working out alternative payment options at the market e.g. WIC vouchers.
We also have provided consumer education about the value of local agriculture/locally grown produce. We are members of the Washington State Farmer’s Market Association and use this organization to supply printed information for market goers.
The Mukilteo Farmers’ Market will be held on Wednesdays, from 3-7 pm. at Lighthouse Park (next to the ferry). |
